threat forces BCHS evacuation

ANTHEM
– A bomb threat forced the evacuation Monday of
students, teachers and administrators
at Boulder Creek High School 10 minutes before classes
were scheduled to end for
the day.
An
unidentified Boulder Creek secretary received the
threat at around 1:50 p.m., according to Diane Drumwright,
a secretary for the Deer Valley Unified School District.
Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded
to the threat and Daisy Mountain Fire Department
was put on alert, but firefighters did not leave
their station near the school.
Students
were released at 2 p.m., with no reported injuries.
Boulder Creek classes, which resumed Monday morning
after a two‑week holiday break, normally conclude
at 2:10 p.m.
“Luckily,
this was called in 10 minutes before school ended,”
Drumwright said.
Lt.
Paul Chagolla of MCSO advised the school was given
the all‑clear at around 5:40 p.m., after bomb‑detection
canines were used to search the campus.
“They
did not detect any suspicious devices whatsoever,”
Chagolla said. “It was a bomb scare that was determined
to be false.”
Monday
evening activities, including sporting events, were
cancelled and rescheduled dates were unavailable
at press time.
An
investigation is still pending. One report said
the caller who made the bomb threat had a muffled
voice that made it hard to distinguish his or her
sex, but Chagolla said he could not confirm that
as of Tuesday morning.
Boulder
Creek Principal Kevin Imes sent a letter home with
students Tuesday detailing the events to parents.
