Jaguars hoping to crash party to crash party
B.C., O'Connor start 2nd semester
by Jason Stone

ANTHEM – In only its second year as a full varsity girls basketball team, Boulder Creek is hoping to affect the Northwest Region race in 2006‑07.

Boulder Creek wrapped up its non‑region schedule Jan. 5 when the Jaguars traveled near Yuma to beat San Luis 56‑51.

The Jaguars brought a 8‑6 overall record and 0‑2 mark in the region into the spring semester with 12 league games upcoming before the playoffs.

The win over LaJoya was big as it came after three straight losses in the Flowing Wells Invitational before New Year's Day. Ashley Zeek led all players with 19 points.

Boulder Creek attempted to make it two in a row Jan. 9 at O'Connor, but results of the game were unavailable at press time. The Jaguars have games at Kingman Jan. 12 and home against Deer Valley Jan. 16 also on tap.

Zeek leads the team with a 14.6 point scoring average. Tashina Hunter is averaging 12.0. Nadia Hussain is the team's statistical leader in rebounding.

Eagles hoping to keep perfect mark

NORTH VALLEY – After going 1‑3 at the Nike Tournament of Champions, O'Connor returns to region play holding a 2‑0 record in Northwest games.

Hillary Bratlien has been on a tear for the Eagles, averaging 22.4 points and 13.6 rebounds per game.

After this week's game against Boulder Creek, the Eagles are slated to play Mountain Ridge on Jan. 12 and North Canyon on Jan. 16.

In other local 5A girls basketball news, Goldwater (0‑14, 0‑2) will try to get its elusive first win this week with games against North Canyon, Deer Valley and Kingman. The Bulldogs went 0‑4 at its most recent tournament, the Centennial Tournament Dec. 26‑27.
