Government agencies are proposing to increase Carefree Highway to six lanes from I‑17 to Cave Creek Road and four lanes from Cave Creek Road to Scottsdale Road/Tom Darlington Drive. A meeting will be held Jan. 17 to collect the public’s comments on various proposals affecting the Carefree Highway Scenic Corridor before final decisions are made. Shown above is present‑day traffic on Carefree Highway near 7th Avenue.

Thousands of tons of rock, soil and beams for rebuilding Pinnacle Peak Park’s retaining walls were transported by helicopter starting at 9 a.m. on Tuesday. The park was closed so the materials could be delivered but will remain open during the eight‑week maintenance project. Scottsdale’s Parks and Recreation Division is overseeing the work through a $44,000 grant. The Rotary Club of Pinnacle Peak contributed about $10,000 for the helicopter.
