Insults ‘will get you nowhere’

This is in response to the Jan. 10 letter in The Desert Advocate by Ms. Nancy Lewis.

I had no idea there was so much hatred toward Anthem by the New River and Desert Hills residents. And it’s not as if the media has been provoking this hatred for a long time now. Why don’t we send representatives from each community and sign a lifelong accord for hating each other. Look out your window to the south. Do you see the big brown cloud over Anthem? Of course not. We do not want the filthy air here anymore than you do. And the neighbors’ lights at Anthem? We leave them on to deter crime. Was there a robbery in Anthem?

Does that make New River and Desert Hills immune? And those parked cars on the streets of Anthem? We do have restrictions to allow temporary parking by visitors. You never have visitors at your place?

Your statements of “if you want city, move to Scottsdale” or you “can’t understand the mentality of those who choose to live in a place like Anthem,” I guess you can’t understand the mentality of the 2 million people in the Phoenix area who live in suburbia. It’s called being able to make a living in the city.

You are glad that the Desert Hills fence is there to keep Anthem in. Did you happen to think that maybe the residents of Anthem would prefer that traffic be restricted from Desert Hills and New River also?

A person as bitter as you are about the existence of Anthem certainly wouldn’t want any children from New River or Desert Hills attending Anthem’s top‑notch library or schools. And I am positive you wouldn’t want to be seen in our Wal‑Mart parking lot or any other service area Anthem provides.

It would be my desire for all of us to get along together. But I guess that won’t happen as long as you continue to compare a washing machine in a Desert Hills yard with a BMW parked on an Anthem street.

When folks moved into Anthem, most of them were not thinking about corporate greed. We just wanted a nice place to live with parks for our kids, etc.

The city isn’t leaving; it’s coming. Insulting Anthem residents will get you nowhere.
