Love is all you need

ANTHEM – February is the month of romance. Love is in the air as sweethearts everywhere celebrate St. Valentine’s Day. Tokens of the heart, such as roses and chocolate, are exchanged in annual ritual as lovers demonstrate their affection.

But what ever happened to the sweet serenades of the bards of medieval times?

As a break in the routine, how about throwing a gift of love songs into the mix?

ProMusica Arizona has chosen to present an evening of love songs as a gift this year to say “We love you” and thank its sponsors and patrons for their continued support.

ProMusica Arizona’s “Love Songs Concert” is the first event allowing individual ProMusica orchestra and chorale members to take the spotlight in solo performances.

During the evening, performers will be placed in three strategic locations on the stage, right, left and center, and will take turns performing their specific pieces. Concert‑goers will hear everything from Elvis to Broadway and pops to classical. About 30 love songs in all will be featured in the show.

“Originally we were going to do this as a thank you to our patrons,” explains Pat Marrs, vice president of PMA. “Then we decided to open it up to the public. We’re hoping to build new friendships by introducing more people to ProMusica Arizona. It’s a great way to showcase our talent and attract new people. We’re very excited.”

The event will take place beginning at 5:30 p.m., Feb. 11, at Anthem Country Club’s Ironwood Clubhouse.

“For people living in the North Valley area, it’s hard to drive into Phoenix for entertainment,” says Connie Henry, PMA president. “This is a way for people to get out and enjoy a nice, romantic evening. It should be a lot of fun. We’ve never done anything like this before.”

ProMusica has never provided its performers with solo opportunities before this concert.

“They’re very excited about the opportunity to play,” Marrs says. “People are bringing showcase pieces. We’ve had more singers and solo volunteers than we’ve got room for.”

State Senator Pamela Gorman will be on hand to emcee the event, along with artistic director Kevin Kozacek.

“She’s been a big supporter of ProMusica for a long time, and she’s an Anthem resident,” Henry says of the State Senator. “We’re glad to have her.”

ProMusica Arizona has a gift‑wrapped agenda in its love songs.

“We want to serenade you. We want you to enjoy the total Valentine experience with a romantic evening right here in the North Valley. What better way to spend a Sunday afternoon?”

Tickets for the event are $50 each and can be purchased at www.promusica.org, Anthem Community Center, Deer Valley Credit Union, Andrew Z Jewelers in Anthem, or by phone at (623) 465‑4650.

Anthem Country Club is located at 2708 W. Anthem Club Dr. For more information, call (623) 465‑4650.
