Kauffman won an 8‑1 decision to claim the championship. The 5A state championships are set for this week at various locations.

PGA veteran Hunter Mahan, shown here practicing in the sand traps at last year’s FBR Open, will be one of a group of golfers at this week’s event at the TPC in Scottsdale.
