3 Redneck Tenors to wow Wickenburg

WICKENBURG – First there were the three operatic tenors, then the Three Irish Tenors, and of course Three Mo’ Tenors.

Now, straight out of East Texas, comes a new breed of tenor from more humble origins, (drum roll please) the 3 Redneck Tenors.

The unlikely trio will take audiences on a cross‑country journey at 7 p.m. Feb. 22 and 23 at the Dell E. Webb Center for the Performing Arts in Wickenburg.

Join Billy Bob, Billy Joe and Billy Billee as they mix NASCAR with “La Boheme,” light beer with “Carmen,” and throw in a little “Madame Butterfly” for good measure.

From their modest beginnings in Paris (Texas, of course) all the way to their triumphant debut at New York’s famous Carnegie Hall, the audience travels along with the three cousins.

With music from a live band and an operatically‑trained cast of Broadway veterans, their songs range from Elvis to Puccini, soul  to pop and country to opera.

Don’t let their appearances fool you, a wealth of musical talent hides under the stars’ amazingly bad hair.

Writer and director Matthew Lord performed at the Metropolitan Opera and sang alongside the greatest vocalists of modern times, including members of the original operatic trio, the Three Tenors.  Soon after the Three Tenors’ historical performances, more tenors followed.

The Irish Tenors, the Ten Tenors, the Three Tenors and a Soprano, Three Mo’ Tenors, and the Three Chinese Tenors.

Lord had the idea to make it funny and 3 Redneck Tenors was born.

“It was developed for my hate of the Three Tenors phenomenon,” Lord quipped. “I actually kill off a tenor at the top of the show.”

The show has received rave reviews from critics nationwide and draws fans from urban and rural areas alike.

“The reactions have been a combination of ‘Andy Griffith’ and a rock concert,” continued Lord. “It plays amazingly well all over the place.”

Tickets to see “3 Redneck Tenors: A new musical adventure” are still available for both shows.

To reserve seats contact the Webb Center Box Office by visiting www.delewebbcenter.org or calling (928) 684‑6624.

Tickets are $30 for adults and $5 for students 18 and younger.

“A mullet is a terrible thing to waste,” joked Lord.
