Greed
and arrogance is very apparent
Cave
Creek has rezoned part of a large parcel
of trust land on the north side of Carefree
Highway east of 28th Street and the City
of Phoenix objects to the inclusion of
general commercial and housing denser
than one unit per acre. If Phoenix thinks
that this will add to density and congestion
in the area, it should look to its own
activity along Carefree Highway.
Phoenix
supported a Home Depot and Fry’s Shopping
Center at 48th Street some years ago and
there is a new center under construction
at that intersection now; all with a Cave
Creek address but in Phoenix. Close to
Route 17 is the large Tramonto subdivision
with attached and detached housing and
a congested marketplace as well as a newer
Home Depot. Construction is also proceeding
just east of there for additional office
and retail space.
It
seems that increasing density along the
highway is not pertinent when it comes
to financial gain for Phoenix. Greed and
arrogance is very apparent.
Before
Cave Creek rezoned some of the aforementioned
land, town staff and council met with
residents of the area. None of us want
to see our beautiful Sonoran Foothills
compromised.
We
all would love to see it stay totally
natural, but growth is going to come,
whether we want it
to or not.
Solutions
were worked out. There is still ample
space around the rezoned area designated
for one‑
to five‑acre home sites. Isn’t it
beneficial for us all to have a plan for
the future determined by Cave Creek and
its residents, who are known to work together
to preserve as much open space as
possible?
