New River man arrested on child molestation charges
Convicted sex offender accused of sexual abuse, drug offenses
Staff reports

NEW RIVER – Detectives are investigating allegations that a convicted sex offender living in New River may have sexually abused an underage female.

Maricopa County Sheriff’s deputies on Friday arrested Mark L. Stone, 49, and charged him with seven felony sex‑abuse and related offenses, according to a MCSO news release.

Officers arrested Stone after receiving a report that he allegedly molested a girl repeatedly over a four‑year span beginning in 2003, the sheriff’s office reported. Stone allegedly provided the girl, now 15‑years‑old, with alcohol and illegal drugs.

Detectives charged Stone with one count of child molestation, one count of sexual abuse, one count of attempted sexual abuse of a minor, two counts of involving a minor in a drug offense, one count of furnishing harmful material to a minor, and one count of public sexual indecency.

Stone was convicted in 1997 for engaging in sexual intercourse and oral sex with a 15‑year‑old girl, the daughter of his then girlfriend, according to the sheriff’s office. He was also convicted of giving that victim alcohol.

Stone remains in the 4th Avenue jail pending a bond hearing. His place of residence is listed as 2559 W. Roughrider Rd., located between 23rd and 27th avenues north of New River Road.

Investigators have received information that additional victims may exist.  Anyone with information regarding this case should call Det. Sgt. K. Seagraves at: 602‑876‑1011.
