Starlight Theater auditions scheduled

Starlight Community Theater will hold its third audition for youth and adults for its upcoming musical production of “Damn Yankees.” This adaptation is based on the novel “The Year the Yankees Lost the Pennant” by Douglas Wallop.

The first two auditions were held Feb. 17 and 20. The third audition for ages 8 and up will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. on Feb. 22 at the Anthem Community Center. Auditions are open so no appointment  is necessary.

Play rehearsals begin February 27. Performances take place at 7 p.m. on April 6, 7, 12, 13 and 14 at Boulder Creek High School Performing Arts Center.

“Damn Yankees” will be directed by Paul Towne, produced by Betty Towne, choreographed by Kenda Newbury, with choral direction by Rebecca Hitchcock. Call Betty Towne at (623) 594‑3832 for more information.

Museum sponsoring desert tours

The Desert Caballeros Western Museum has revived its desert adventure tours. Led by museum trustee and volunteer Joe Stevens, the unique back road tours are designed to take those who long to ride back in time and into the beauty of the desert.

Visit the historic ghost towns of Weaverville, Octave, Stanton and the old Congress and Garcia cemeteries on the “Desert Ghost Town Adventure.”

This trip highlights Wickenburg’s beginnings and reviews the history of these towns. Lunch will be served in the old Opera House in Stanton. The tour will take place from 10 a.m.‑3 p.m. on Feb. 22 .

Cost is $75 for members and volunteers and $100 for non‑members.

Join Stevens and botanist John  Anderson for revealing insight into the plants of the desert on the “Desert Blooms  Adventure.”

The tour includes a visit to Box Canyon, complete with Indian petroglyphs and insights into the earth’s history. The tour will run from 9 a.m.‑noon on April 5 .

Cost is  $50 for members and volunteers and $75 for non‑members.

Spanish dancers coming to Scottsdale

Widely acclaimed Spanish dance company Noche Flamenca will perform at 8 p.m. March 2‑3 at the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts Virginia G. Piper Theater.

Since 1993, Noche Flamenca  has sought to maintain the essence, purity and integrity of one of the world’s most complex and mysterious art forms without the use of tricks or gimmicks. All aspects of flamenco–dance, song and music–are interrelated and given equal weight in Noche Flamenca, creating a communal spirit within the company. Some of Spain’s most renowned artists have worked with the company.

Dance auditions for 8th Celebration of Dance

Golden Lion Productions will conduct auditions for dancers for the eighth annual Celebration of Dance concert at Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts during National Dance Week in April.

Dancers age 16 and older and professional and non‑professional dance companies can audition by appointment from 1‑6 p.m. March 3 at Metro Arts, 1700 N. 7th Ave. in Phoenix. All dance styles are considered and dancers can submit their work by live audition or video submission.

Wickenburg museum  sponsoring art classes

Aspiring artists can join award‑winning teacher and artist Jane Skaar Coleman from The Desert Western Caballeros Museum in Wickenburg’s “Cowgirl Up! Art from the Other Half of the West” Exhibition for an instructional class in watercolor techniques.

“Watercolor with Jane Skaar Coleman” will take place at Wickenburg’s Rancho de los Caballeros on March 2 and 3.

Coleman is known for her western landscapes and for her paintings of animals and wildlife. She has participated in a number of major exhibitions and shows in Arizona, Wyoming and Montana.

The fee for her class is $175 for museum members and $250 for non‑members and includes class instruction, art supplies and any model fees.
