Additional
retail on Carefree Highway
by Kathleen Stinson
TRAMONTO/SONORAN FOOTHILLS - Phoenix based Evergreen Development
Co. will soon open an additional 14,000 square feet of retail space
on the southwest corner of Carefree Highway and 27th Avenue.
The company is constructing one 9,100 square foot building and another
measuring 4,900 square feet on the two acre site. The developer
says some units are still available. Construction is expected to
be completed by May or June.
The Streets of New York Italian pizza restaurant, Happy Valley Dentists,
and My Cleaners have leased space in one of the buildings. Princess
Nails has leased space in the other building at the shopping area
called Sonoran Desert Village. The retail space includes an outdoor
patio for the Streets of New York as well as 78 parking stalls.
Evergreen Development has projects Phoenix wide, and has developed
such projects as the Walgreens in Anthem at the corner of Anthem
Way and Daisy Mountain Drive. Evergreen owns the property on the
northeast corner of North Valley and Sonoran parkways.
"The massive growth in the area attracted us to develop this
intersection," said Kelly Hayes, senior project manager for
Evergreen Development. "And we like the site and the intersection."
The two structures are representative of Sonoran design, employing
soft, natural colors and tones, and a combination of stone, textured
stucco, slate, and concrete tile.
Evergreen Development sold the property to the rear to Champion
Development, which is putting in office condos, Hayes said.
The Wells Fargo Bank under construction to the east is not an Evergreen
project, but is expected to open in March, said Laura Ortiz, principal
with Evergreen Development.
