‘No‑shows’ at chamber forum throttle public debate to further agendas

The Carefree/Cave Creek Chamber Forum on February 13 should be a reminder to the citizens of Carefree just how far Mr. Coady and his three handpicked candidates for Carefree Town Council will go to make headlines.

Hours before the event, they all backed out, and the reason–Mr. Coady’s pathetic assertion that because I’m a candidate for town council and my wife Joanne Gemmill, is the past president of the chamber, this “gives the perception of special interest and impropriety.”

If Mr. Coady had done his homework, he would have discovered that my wife in January had recused herself from any involvement with the chamber forum, as I had decided to run for town council.

I apologize to those Carefree voters who made the effort to attend the forum, only to find four empty seats.

It is unfortunate that Mr. Coady and his “no‑shows” find it necessary to unfairly criticize the chamber and more importantly, accuse my wife and myself of such an indiscretion in hopes of furthering their campaign effort.
