Question:
Can you elaborate
on how we're supposed
to consider an
eye for an eye
and a tooth for
a tooth?
Answer:
Have you ever
heard anyone say,
"I''ll show
you a thing or
two?" God
gave the restriction
of taking one
tooth for one
tooth because
He knew our natural
tendency would
be to demand all
for one. Nor does
the law instruct
an arm for a tooth
or a life for
an eyeball. The
law in the books
of Exodus and
Leviticus actually
include hands,
feet, wounds,
bruises, burns
and fractures.
These were directions
intended to guide
those who judged
the Jewish nation,
and meant to instill
terror in people
who were tempted
to misbehave in
society.
Disagree with
God's guideline
to Israel if you
want, but don't
overlook the messy
state of our own
judicial system
today.
When it comes
to personal matters,
even the Old Testament
tells us, "Do
not repay evil
for evil. Wait
for the Lord and
He will save you,"
(Pro 20:22). Jesus
declared, "Love
your enemies and
bless those who
curse you,"
(Mat 5:44). Thus
we're not to be
revengeful, but
rather allow God
to intervene.
(See Rom 12:19.)
He knows how.
Question:
Regarding last
week's article;
I always thought
cremation was
a grave situation.
Can you help bury
my fears?
Answer:
Sometimes we just
need to lighten
up and live, so
let me say in
closing, I can't
stand it. You're
killing me man.
Let's just bury
this issue once
and for all.
Question:
What quick tips
on marriage can
you offer from
the Bible?
Answer:
God knew how simple
we are, so He
provided three
simple rules.
Too bad so many
misinformed people
had to come along
and complicate
them. While divorce
rates rise with
the abundance
of books on relationships,
many have turned
into seminar lifers
and counseling
junkies.
Is this a bit
irritating already?
Oh well, here's
what God has to
say.
Rule number one
is, "Husbands
love your wives
just as Christ
loved the church
and gave himself
up for her,"
(Eph 5:25). Love
her to death like
Jesus did.
Rule number two
is, "Wives
be subject to
your own husbands
as to the Lord,"
(Eph 5:22). This
is not about inequality.
It's about the
role which God
designed us to
fulfill.
Thirdly, "Be
subject to one
another in the
fear of Christ,"
(Eph 5:21). It
only works for
men and women
who are both willing
to humbly bow
their lives before
their Lord, Jesus
Christ.
Well there's the
short list. Remember,
this is America
where we still
have a choice.
You can ball up
this answer up
and fire off a
three pointer,
or give it a shot
starting tonight.
I hope you'll
choose the latter.
What if it works?
