Council
candidates star in 'Lost in Cave Creek'
First
there was “Lost in Space.” Then there
was “Lost.” Now there’s “Lost in Cave
Creek.”
Creekers,
we are living our own version of “Lost”–lost
heritage, lost open space and lost quality
of life–all because of three lost councilmen
and one lost newspaper editor who’ve been
promoting bad policy for our community.
Councilman
Ernie Bunch stars as a character who lost
his direction. During his 2005 election
campaign,
“Bunch said he is a strong proponent of
property rights, something he hopes to
maintain for Cave Creek residents” (Arizona
Republic, 2/14/2005). But for the past
two years, he’s consistently voted against
residents’ property rights, kowtowing
instead to a handful of bar owners and
developers.
Councilman
Kim Brennan stars as character who lost
her moral compass. I don’t know how in
good conscience she continuously insists
on voting on items that promote her personal
monetary gain, both in her capacity as
a realtor and as an owner of a Cave Creek
café. Even if she’s following the letter
of the law, I doubt she’s following the
law’s spirit or intent. She argues that
being a resident doesn’t preclude her
from voting on residential issues, so
being a business owner shouldn’t preclude
her from voting on business issues. Does
she just not get it?
Councilman
Tom McGuire stars as a character who lost
his grounding in science. If he has the
scientific
background that he claims, surely he must
remember there’s a difference between
theoretical and practical science. Theoretical
science deals with formulas and equations.
Practical science deals with real‑world
applications. But McGuire consistently
votes in favor of the theoretical and
thereby harms residents’ quality of life.
Don
Sorchych stars as a newspaper editor who
lost his way as the community watchdog.
Now he’s the anti‑resident/pro‑business
watchdog, spreading venom and spite with
his divisive and dishonest rhetoric.
Councilpersons
Bunch, Brennan and McGuire, if any of
you are re‑elected, please find
your way back to the residents of Cave
Creek. The business owners don’t elect
you. Don Sorchych doesn’t elect you. The
residents elect you, and we expect your
representation and support.
