Cave Creek's destiny ... out of control

Creekers, it’s time to get your heads out of  the sand.

For the past two years our town manager and four councilmen have been working diligently to destroy the Cave Creek we know and love. Sure, all you hear from the town manager and his political entourage (including the Sonoran News) is how wonderful they are because they will buy the water company and preserve land so “Cave Creek can control its destiny.” Ha! Cave Creek’s destiny is already out of control.

What they don’t tell you about is their hypocrisy in wasting an unconscionable amount of water by allowing the planning department to sneak through a “family water playground with lazy (floating) river and slide” (quoting http://www.cavecreekresortcasitas.com/) on Schoolhouse Road. The slide is explicitly prohibited by Cave Creek’s zoning code.

What they don’t tell you about is the desert that’s being destroyed without reason and without permits while the planning department looks the other way. They don’t tell you about the daffy definitions concocted by the planning department in order to allow structures that defy Cave Creek’s building codes–and common sense, such as calling the second stories at Stagecoach Village “mezzanines” even though there are no third stories, in order to circumvent Stagecoach Village’s council‑approved building stipulation that prohibits two or more stories.

If Creekers are to have any hope of preserving not just land, but Cave Creek itself–our heritage and lifestyle–we must vote for Lopez, Meeth, Miller and Moore because they are the only candidates who go beyond just acknowledging Cave Creek’s growth‑related issues. They care about how these issues affect residents’ lives. They will demand a balance between the town’s growth and fiscal health and our quality of life.

In contrast, the four other candidates have documented records of scoffing at residents’ concerns and voting against residents in order to gratify a handful of business owners and commercial developers.

So please vote for, and only for, Lopez, Meeth, Miller and Moore to ensure they win the election.
