A Northern Cardinal perches in a tree in this undated photo. The Audubon Society recently released the results of its Christmas bird count showing avian populations on the rise in the Desert Foothills. Bird watchers spotted 139 different specimens of the Northern Cardinal this year. Please see the Community section for details on the Audubon Society Christmas Bird Count.
