Del
Webb owns county officials
I am disgusted with the despicable actions of "envelopers"
like Del Webb. For more than four years resident dog owners in Anthem
took their dogs to an idle baseball field to use as an informal
dog park for a couple of hours on Sundays. The owners cleaned up
their mess and relocated if there was an early ball game. The ballpark
is owned by Del Webb Corporation and paid for by residents. There
is no dog park because Del Webb refused to build one even though
its other properties like Sun City have dog parks.
So some Del Webb lackey calls county Animal Control for a dawn raid
at the ballpark on January 22. With no other abuse ongoing in the
county, officers show up in two trucks escorted by another sheriff's
vehicle to issue citations and intimidate dog lovers. The only problem
is that Animal Control officers have absolutely no legal authority
to enter private land where dogs are in an enclosed area or off
leash. County Ordinance 13 is perfectly clear: "If any dog
is at large on the public streets, public parks or public property,
then said dog's owner or custodian is in violation of this ordinance."
The only public property any dog stood near to was an impoundment
vehicle there solely to intimidate owners.
This shows either the degree of ignorance of the law or extent to
which the county kowtows to "envelopers" like Del Webb.
Both the Animal Control and Sheriff's office should be ashamed.
That County resources were "persuaded" to act under code
of law with no legal basis whatsoever to intimidate dog lovers is
beyond reprehensible. One woman was coerced to plead guilty for
a therapy dog because an ignorant judge was too lazy to read the
ordinance. I am from Louisiana. Special interests run that state,
too.
Feels like home.
