Three Anthem businesses are burglarized
by Ambria Hammel
ANTHEM - An unidentified suspect broke into three businesses late
March 14 or early March 15 at the Anthem Commerce Park and made
off with what amounted to pocket change.
The break ins occurred between 10 p.m. and approximately 12:45 a.m.
when the burglar forced entry into two hair salons and a pizza shop
on North 41st Drive, just south of Anthem Way. Another series of
break ins east of I 17 around the same time frame may be related.
"It was pretty unprofessional -just busted through the front
door," said John Timson, owner of the Barber Shop of Anthem,
whose business was one of the targets. He said a rock or blunt object
was likely used to get through the front door. The shop is not equipped
with an alarm, but Timson said the safety tint on the door was supposed
to be resistant. The suspect got approximately $5 in coins from
the register.
Two neighboring businesses on North 41st Drive were also targeted.
Doni Fetahu, manager of Ray's Pizza, reported a broken window and
approximately $50 in change missing. The manager of Garrett's Salon,
the third burglary, could not be reached for comment to determine
the extent of loss.
According to Sgt. Lauri Williams with Phoenix Police, the incident
report indicates the suspect may have crossed over to the east side
of I 17 and burglarized a dry cleaners and another hair salon in
Anthem. Those businesses are within the jurisdiction of the Maricopa
County Sheriff's Office, and Williams said MCSO may have video surveillance.
Information from the MCSO reports were unavailable at press time.
Timson noted that eight businesses in the commerce park were broken
into six months ago. At that time the suspect cut alarm wires before
forcing entry.
