CSHS golfer Choe makes LPGA cut
Falcons junior finishes 4 under at the Safeway International
by Jason Stone

CCUSD - Cactus Shadows High School golfer Esther Choe reached the big time last week.
Not only did the Falcons golfer play in the LPGA Safeway International, the 16 year old made the cut and competed with some of the best golfers in the world.

Choe, the defending Arizona state high school champion, shot a four round total of 284 March 16 19 at Superstition Mountain Prospector Course to finish 4 under par.

In making the cut, Choe matched the 36 hole total of Annika Sorenstam, who is ranked as the world's No. 1 female golfer. Choe had 14 birdies, six bogeys and two double bogeys overall for the tournament.

She opened the tournament 3 under par with a round of 69. The second round saw Choe make 17 pars and one birdie to finish 1 under.
Choe shot another under par round on the third day (70), but fell off on the final day by finishing 2 over par.

In October, Choe helped Cactus Shadows to its second girls golf championship by shooting a two day total of 125, the lowest in state tournament history.

The junior missed part of the season because of national commitments. Choe, the No. 5 ranked junior golfer in the nation during the prep season, was a member of the victorious U.S. Junior Solheim Cup team.
