Eagles
track impressive at invite
by Jason Stone
DVUSD - It was delayed a week because of rain, but the North
Canyon Invitational track meet turned out to be an event Sandra
Day O'Connor found worth waiting for.
In a meet packed with some of the top teams in the state March
18, the Eagles finished sixth on the girls side and ninth
in the boys competition. Despite some schools not participating
on the make up date, O'Connor girls coach Brian Dempsey said
his team still turned in an inspired performance.
"It was a little bit of a less quality meet than it would
have been last weekend," Dempsey said. "It was a
little bit watered down but our times weren't watered down.
We had a really good meet."
O'Connor's girls had a trio of first place finishers, as Nicole
Elliott won the shot put with a heave of 34 feet, 2 inches.
The Eagles' 4x800 meter relay team qualified for the state
meet in May with a winning time of 10 minutes, 9.28 seconds.
And Lindsay Prescott won the 3,200 with a time of 11:10.70-the
fastest in the state this season.
Prescott joined Camille Olson, Aliena Eisenhauer and Renee
Peck as part of the winning relay team.
For O'Connor's boys, Spencer Morgan led the way by winning
the 800 in 2:02. Steve Jones fared well in the triple jump,
finishing sixth with a leap of 40 feet, 1.5 inches.
The Eagles will next compete in the Chandler Rotary Invitational
March 24 and 25 at Chandler High School. |
