Jaguars girls tennis nets - 3 big wins
by Jason Stone
DVUSD - It's not Christmas, but the Boulder Creek girls tennis team
last week sent coach Chuck Narvin off to vacation with an early
present.
The Jaguars scored a tennis trifecta last week, winning three matches
in three days, including a 5 4 squeaker March 17 against rival Sandra
Day O'Connor. That made a happy man out of Narvin, who went to Lake
Tahoe for spring break.
"The O'Connor match was our toughest match of the year so far,"
said Narvin, whose girls improved to 9 1 with last week's wins over
O'Connor, Deer Valley and North Canyon. "It came down to the
end."
Despite missing Meredith Clark and Daishawna Matthews, who did not
play because of illnesses, the Eagles were able to beat O'Connor
thanks to singles wins from No. 1 Vanessa Green and No. 2 Hannah
Townsend, a doubles win from the tandem of Green and Townsend, a
singles win by Kalyn Schmidt and a doubles win from the team of
Schmidt and Arrianne Hickman.
"We had to rely on some girls moving up from the (junior varsity)
squad to fill in," Narvin said. "Fortunately, we won the
match."
Boulder Creek blanked North Canyon 9 0 March 15 and routed Deer
Valley 7 2 a day later.
O'Connor (7 4) also beat Deer Valley last week, winning 5 4 March
14, but the Eagles lost to Mountain Ridge 5 4 March 16.
O'Connor
boys nip Boulder Creek 5 4
DVUSD - O'Connor reversed the fate of its girls team by nipping
Boulder Creek in the March 17 boys match to finish a 2 1 week.
The Eagles (8 3) also triumphed over Deer Valley March 14, but
dropped their match with Mountain Ridge 7 2 two days later.
Boulder Creek's boys team was swept in three matches last week,
losing to North Canyon, Deer Valley and O'Connor on three consecutive
days.
