Question:
A
Christian has two routes to work. One day he decides
to take the back way for no apparent reason. Upon
arrival, he discovers a fatal accident at the
time and place he would have exited the freeway
along his normal route. He determines his decision
to be God’s intervention. Was it? What about non‑believers
who occasionally take back roads and avoid accidents?
Is God intervening in their lives, too?
Answer:
Clint
Eastwood as Dirty Harry asked his criminal, “Do
you feel lucky?” Luck has nothing to do with the
believer’s life. The lost may feel lucky, but
a believer is blessed. If you recall, it wasn’t
that criminal’s lucky day anyway. Luck runs out,
but I believe God is merciful to intervene even
in unbelievers lives, in order to get their focus
on Him.
As
the people of Israel wandered in circles for forty
years on their way to the Promised Land, God protected,
guided and provided for them. Foreigners and aliens
in the camp could see the pillar of fire and cloud
that led them. They also ate manna and manna‑flakes.
Perhaps it was God’s mercy to reveal Himself to
these sojourners as they traveled alongside Israel.
It could also be God’s intervention of mercy in
the life of the unbeliever as he takes a different
route to work, only to discover a fatal accident
was avoided. God works in multiple ways when it
comes to choosing Jesus.
A
person barely missing a fatal accident may reconsider
the life he has been living when he realizes it
could have been ended just moments ago. Since
God desires that all would be saved and come to
the knowledge of the truth, I believe He intervenes
in the lives of all quite often. Unfortunately,
not everyone is paying attention.
During
the flood, a farmer was praying on his roof for
God’s intervention as the water continued to rise.
When rescuers in a helicopter and two boats offered
assistance, he declared he was praying and waiting
for God to save him. After he died he complained
to the Lord for not saving him, but Jesus replied,
“I sent two boats and a helicopter. What more
did you want?”
No
one will ever be able to say, “God never intervened
in my life.” In this fallen world God may be speaking
to you through miracles, someone at work, a classmate,
a family member, someone at the store, your hairdresser,
or even through a tragedy. Listen up because luck
runs out, but Jesus never fails. We do.
Let
me close by saying that Christians do die in car
wrecks; but they’re indestructible until God is
finished using them for His glory.

1:19‑21
