Celebration of Fine Art best ever

SCOTTSDALE – Turn out the lights, the party’s over.

The 17th annual Celebration of Fine Art in Scottsdale came to a close March 23 and principal organizer and co‑owner Susan Potje couldn’t be happier with the outcome.

“This was the best show, by our accounts, we’ve ever  had,” she says. “We estimate about 50,000 people came during the 10 weeks we were here.”

The event features about 100 artists in a variety of media, who work on‑site giving visitors a chance to interact with them and see fine art created on the spot.

Located in the big white tents at Loop 101 and Scottsdale Road, the celebration offers visitors and artists freedom to mingle.

“That’s the best thing about being here,” Potje says. “It’s such a relaxed and casual  atmosphere where artists and collectors can connect.”

Visitors have a definite love affair with the event.

“I’ve been coming to this show for the past six or seven years, and it always has the best mix of artists with a wide array of mediums and visions,” says Phoenix resident Lenny Liff. “This year’s mix was the best ever.”

Scottsdale residents John and MJ Hall are repeat visitors.

“As we walked the tents, it was clear that the artists felt and enjoyed each other’s creative energies,” MJ Hall says. “It’s the blend of old and new talent, style and vision that makes the event unique. The opportunity to watch works progress from blank canvas to finished work makes multiple visits fascinating and getting to know the artists makes each visit fun.”

Potje points out the show is not a craft show. It’s all fine art.

“One of our tasks is finding artists of the caliber we want who can commit to 10 weeks,” she says. “We pretty much want them here all the time during the show.

“Our goal is to keep increasing the quality of our art and keep an ever‑growing client base.” she says. “For a lot of our artists, this show has given them an opportunity to make a living being professional artists. Many lives have been changed because of our show.”

Four artists have been with the celebration since its inception, Potje says.

“Our artists all interact and help each other. They challenge each other to improve their craft and art.”

Easily one of the biggest fine art shows in the Valley, the Celebration of Fine Art is already on the drawing board for next year.

“The 10 weeks just fly by,” Potje says. “It’s always good to see it go because everybody needs a rest, but before you know it, it’s back.”

The event was started by Potje’s parents Ann and Tom Morrow and is now run by Susan and her husband Jake Potje.

“We’d like everyone to know the family who runs the show considers it an absolute privilege to represent these artists and share with the community.”

Next year’s show will begin January 12 and run through March 23.
