to help break cycle of domestic violence

DESERT FOOTHILLS - April is National Child Abuse Prevention
Month. Arizona Bike Week continues through April 9. To celebrate
both, the Domestic Violence Education and Assistance program
in the Desert Foothills is helping "Break the Cycle"
of all types of domestic violence through a motorcycle raffle.
The DVEA will hold a drawing for a 2006 Harley Davidson Fat
Boy or $10,000 cash. Raffle entrants have the chance to win
prizes including a resort package, gift certificates at Cave
Creek and Carefree restaurants as well as door prizes. Proceeds
fund anti violence programs.
Established in 2003, the DVEA is a volunteer program of the
Foothills Community Foundation dedicated to supporting domestic
violence victims in the Desert Foothills communities.
"It affects so many houses," said Kim Prince, DVEA's
communications chair. |

She
described the common belief that domestic violence has a lower occurrence
rate in areas with higher education and income, but that is not
always the case. To promote awareness, DVEA has fliers with removable
information tabs at the Carefree post office and Prince said
residents are pulling those tabs.
A handful of women benefit from the DVEA's weekly support group.
Volunteers work with elementary school students in the Cave Creek
Unified School District to prevent bullying.
A limited amount of tickets for the raffle are still available.
Tickets are $100 each or three for $275 and are available at The
Lazy Lizard, 6116 E. Cave Creek Road, or by contacting the Foundation.
The raffle will be held April 23 at Harold's Cave Creek Corral.
Entrants need not be present to win.
For information on the raffle, the DVEA or its services, call the
Foundation at (480) 488 1090. |
