Foothills CPA donates kidney
by Barry Cohen

CAREFREE - CPA Jerry Whitmore, a former Cave Creek town councilman, became part of an elite group on Tuesday morning, April 4-one of an estimated 6,500 persons in the United States who will donate a kidney for transplant this year.

Whitmore, 59, gave one of his kidneys to Ellen Chesler, 45, of Carefree, the wife of Attorney Jerald Chesler. Whitmore has been a friend of the Cheslers for 10 years.

Ellen Chesler has undergone kidney dialysis two to three times a week for the past year and a half, according to Whitmore, who spoke with The Desert Advocate the evening before the transplant. "Quite simply," he explained, "the family has a problem and I want to help."

The surgery was performed at Mayo Clinic Hospital in North Phoenix. Look for more on the story next week.
