Jaguars
struggle out of state
by Jason Stone
DVUSD - Boulder Creek's baseball team knows it's hard enough
competing with its own state during its first season as a
varsity team. So don't blame the Jaguars if they're happy
to see teams from out of Arizona leave after two weeks of
spring games in the Valley.
Boulder Creek lost consecutive close games to Oregon schools
Sherwood, Clackamas and Redmond, as well as Colorado teams
Fairview and Arapohoe by a combined 13 runs. The losses dropped
the Jaguars' record to 8 13 overall as the team resumes Northwest
Region play this week.
The Jaguars
lost the first game of the packed week March 27 to Fairview
5 0, then fell 7 4 to Arapohoe a day later. The trio of Oregon
schools then beat Boulder Creek by a combined five runs over
the next three days.
Boulder Creek narrowly lost to Sherwood 3 2 March 29 before
dropping consecutive heartbreakers to Clackamas 11 9 and Redmond
7 5.
The Jaguars,
which entered the week 2 2 in the Northwest Region, were scheduled
to return to action April 4 at home against O'Connor. Results
of the game were unavailable at press time.
The Jaguars will also be at home April 5 against Trevor Browne,
and will rematch at O'Connor April 7.
Boulder Creek, which is scheduled to play four of its final
five games of the season on the road, entered the week 1 1/2
games behind first place Mountain Ridge in the region standings.
The Jaguars were in fifth place behind Ridge, Deer Valley,
North Canyon and Goldwater entering the week. |
