Q:
So after nine years of tackling biblical questions and problems
in the Calvary Corner, what's your problem?
A:
I actually find it a boring waste of time wondering about people's
dysfunctional lives. I also wonder to what degree we're all
dysfunctional. So this could well be a good question for me
to address, as well as encourage somebody else at the same time.
Have
you ever seen a chicken running around with its head cut off?
Have you done that? I mean run around willy‑nilly, not
cut your head off. Just because God has blessed me with energy
to spare is no excuse to miss being quiet and still before Him.
That's a problem I tend to fall into.
I
can now imagine somebody saying, “That's no big deal. We want
something juicy that can sweeten the headlines in the National
Enquirer! Enquiring minds want to know, you know?” Well, it
can be a big deal if you wear a lot of hats in this life. How
many are you wearing right now?
Under
the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, David wrote, “Be still and
know that I am God.
I
will be exalted in the earth (Psa 46:10).” That's an order,
not a question. How is anybody going to truly know God if we're
too busy and noisy to exalt Him? Oh, we might be smart enough
toknow He's around here somewhere, but neglect getting acquainted
with Him in the process.
Have
you ever considered while reading even some of the most genealogical,
historical or scientific areas of scripture that you're actually
getting acquainted with God (John 5:39)? If I don't periodically
apply pressure to the breaks of my life and sit still in His
presence, I just may find myself coming to a screeching halt.
God
wants me to become increasingly acquainted with Him. The key
to loving people is understanding them, and by the same token
I want to understand my Lord that I may love Him all the more.
Who deserves more appreciation than God? I think He loves hearing
it from His kids beyond our corporate worship sessions (Rom
8:15).
The
conversion of a soul is its marriage to Jesus Christ. The scriptures
refer to the church as the bride of Jesus (Rev 19:7‑8).
I want the account of Christ in my life to be more than factual
data–rather, an expression of love. Sometimes I struggle with
the juggle, but God is always there waiting for my attention,
if I'll stop the motion, turn off the commotion and give Him
undisturbed devotion. Today can be a real special day, if we
just stop before we start and ask the Lord to direct it.

119:105
