DESERT
HILLS – A woman was airlifted to John C. Lincoln Hospital‑North
Mountain in serious but stable condition April 5 after being
trapped in her vehicle following a rollover in Desert Hills.
The
single‑vehicle accident occurred at approximately 10 p.m.
at 27th Avenue and Carlise Road north of Cloud Road, according
to Capt. Dennis Tyrrell, Daisy Mountain Fire Department spokesperson.
Tyrrell
said it took DMFD firefighters 35 minutes to extricate the 35‑
to 40‑year‑old woman from her vehicle, described
as a Lexus SUV. She suffered serious head and neck trauma.
Anthem
man likely takes his own life
ANTHEM
– DMFD was dispatched to the 39000 block of North Messner Way
in Anthem on Friday for a code arrest, but when firefighters
arrived on scene, they discovered no signs of life in the 53‑year‑old
man and turned the call over to the Maricopa County Sheriff’s
Office.
According
to MCSO spokes‑ person Lt. Paul Chagolla, the call went
out at 10:30 a.m. April 7. Officers at the scene found the victim
with a gunshot wound to the head, the victim of an apparent
suicide. No other information was available.
Father,
son injured in motorcycle accident
NEW
RIVER – A father and son were injured Saturday in a single motorcycle
accident eastbound on New River Road approximately one mile
north of Circle Mountain Road. The April 8 incident occurred
between 5:15 p.m. and 5:52 p.m.
According
to Capt. Dennis Tyrrell, spokesperson for Daisy Mountain Fire
Department, neither rider was wearing a helmet when the son,
who was navigating a curve to the right on the winding road,
lost control of the bike. Both father and son were transported
to John C. Lincoln‑North Mountain in Phoenix.
The
father, who is approximately 60 years old, suffered head trauma
and was airlifted by Air Evac 12 in critical condition.
The
son, approximately 40 years old, sustained facial injuries and
road rash over most of his body. He was transported by Daisy
Mountain rescue in stable condition. MCSO spokesperson Lieutenant
Paul Chagolla said speed and alcohol may be a factor.
Carefree
Hwy accident results in fatality
DESERT
HILLS – A 65‑year old woman died in a motor vehicle accident
on Carefree Highway at 7th Street around 3:10 p.m. on April
10.
According
to DMFD Capt. Dennis Tyrrell, she was making a left turn onto
Carefree Highway when her minivan was struck by a Dodge Durango
traveling westbound.
“The
(Dodge) SUV careened into oncoming traffic and hit a third vehicle,
which sustained minor damage. The driver of that vehicle refused
treatment at the scene,” Tyrrell said.
In
the SUV were three males, 17, 18 and 19 years old. The 19‑year‑old
was in the front passenger seat and sustained head trauma and
injuries to his extremities. He was airlifted to John C. Lincoln‑North
Mountain trauma center in stable condition. The driver, 18 years
old, sustained minor injuries and was transported by DMFD to
John C. Lincoln‑Deer Valley. The 17‑year‑old
back‑seat passenger reportedly came away from the accident
unscathed.
