Animal Health Services offers pet food recall seminar

Animal Health Services will be offering a public service seminar on the pet food recalls. This is an opportunity for consumers to talk to a veterinarian and receive the facts about problems in the pet food industry.

New Anthem fire station opens

The Open House and Dedication for Fire Station 142 in Anthem is scheduled for Saturday, April 28.

The event runs from 10 a.m.‑noon at the station, located at 41104 N. Daisy Mountain Dr. There will be a formal dedication, tours, demonstrations, cake and beverages. All are invited to attend.

Women on Target shooting clinic May 5

The Arizona Women’s Shooting Association is sponsoring an NRA Women on Target Instructional Shoot for women only at the Ben Avery Shooting Facility on May 5.

All necessary equipment will be provided by the center, including firearms, ammunition, eye/ear protection, and breakfast. This clinic will feature training in the safe handling of handguns to help participants learn the fundamentals of shooting in a relaxing and fun‑filled environment.

The event runs from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The shooting facility is located at 4044 W. Black Canyon Blvd. The cost of attendance is $40 per person. Organizers ask that you please register for this event by May 1.

Salsa Festival at el Pedregal

El Pedregal Shops & Dining at The Boulders will celebrate Cinco de Mayo with a Salsa Festival.

In addition to Mexican cuisine, the May 5 festival will include tequila tastings, a Mariachi band, salsa tastings from several different restaurants, and a Chefs’ Salsa Challenge featuring chefs from more than a dozen restaurants.

El Pedregal is located on the southeast corner of Scottsdale Road and Carefree Highway.         

Oodles of noodles for Ventana Academy fundraiser

Ventana Academy will hold a Spaghetti Supper at The Cave Creek Roadhouse on Tuesday, May 1. Activities will include a student art work raffle, silent auction, door prizes and a 50‑50 raffle.

The event runs from 5 to 8 p.m. Tickets may be purchased at Ventana Academy, 6262 E. Cave Creek Rd. in Cave Creek, or at the door on the night of the supper. Children under 6 eat for free. For more details, call (480) 488‑9362.

Prisoners help raise money for Special Olympics

Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s Chain Gang has been collecting scrap metal to raise funds for Special Olympics.

The scrap metal has then been recycled at local scrap metal companies. A total of $2,200 has thus far been raised.

The scrap metal project will continue as one of the special projects designed for the Chain Gang.

Black Canyon Fire Department to host spaghetti dinner and auction

The Black Canyon Fire Department will hold its Spaghetti Dinner & Auction on Saturday, April 21, at the Black Canyon Fire Station. The event is being held by the BCFD Ladies Auxiliary Petticoat Brigade.

Proceeds from the event will go to the purchase equipment for the station including a new monitor for the ambulance, a thermal imaging camera, parts for the engine, and other badly needed equipment.

We are accepting donation items for the auction. The cutoff date for donations is April 18. The dinner and auction will start at 4 p.m. Tickets for dinner are $6 if purchased in advance by April 15. Dinner tickets will be $7 after that date. Engagement

Richard “Chuck” Bune and Melissa Smith of Cave Creek, are proud to announce the engagement of their daughter, Justine Bune, of Tucson, to Mark Gaddini of Beloit, Wisc.

The bride‑to‑be, 23, is a 2005 cum laude graduate of the University of Arizona, having earned a degree in Cultural Anthropology. Justine was formally a program specialist for the nonprofit, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Tucson before moving away with her fiancé.

The groom‑to‑be, 23, will graduate magna cum laude in May 2007 with a Bachelor of Science in Aeronautics from the University of North Dakota. Mark is pursuing a career as an air traffic controller.

 Following a European vacation this spring, the couple plans to reside in Prescott. An intimate spring wedding is planned for next year in Sedona.
