Smith
represents break from good‑old‑boy
network
One
interpretation of the Carefree Town Council
election results is that at least a third
of the electorate is unhappy with the decisions
of the past town council.
Six‑thousand
two‑hundred and sixteen individual votes
were cast as of March 13. Two‑thousand
seventy‑five, or a third of the votes,
were for the four “independents” in the race–Coady,
Smith, Traynor and Peirce.
The
newly‑elected council consists of Bob
Coady and three incumbents along with two
new council members. The election to date
has resulted in a 5‑1 council (five
good‑old‑boys and one independent).
There
is still a glimmer of hope that Carefree could
add one more council member that is not a
part of the “good‑old‑boy” network.
The
election of independent David Smith will provide
the Carefree Town Council with a better balance
and would make the council more reflective
of the concerns of all the citizens of Carefree.
