Hidden
agenda behind recall effort
After
reading the article “Mayor, councilmen face recall (The Desert
Advocate, April 26),” I would like to fill in some blanks that
will expose a hidden agenda.
Mr.
Jim Peirce and Mr. Aaron Grenley, both Carefree residents, were
the only two individuals in the audience to speak against the
granting of a break in the median allowing a left turn into
the commercial property at the northwest corner of Cave Creek
Road and Carefree Highway. Both have vehemently opposed the
current Carefree administration, and both have been defeated
numerous times at the ballot box in Carefree. Mr. Peirce also
lost a lawsuit against Carefree and is persona non grata there.
We
in Cave Creek have listened ad nauseam to these two pariahs
rant and rave against the Carefree administration at our Cave
Creek council meetings. But this effort by Mr. Peirce to recall
our mayor and select town council members goes beyond the pale.
He is trying to embroil Cave Creek in a Carefree internal dispute.
Having
a non‑resident of Cave Creek initiate a recall in our
town on this issue goes beyond the intent of citizens’rights.
The Maricopa County Department of Transportation has approved
the new location of the break in the median at 54th Street on
Carefree Highway, and this action by Mr. Peirce is irresponsible.
Mr. Peirce was opposed to commercial development on this corner
but was unsuccessful in his effort, and now he is abusing a
neighboring town to achieve, in an underhanded manner, what
he has been unable to achieve at the ballot box.
If
this effort is supported by any elected official in Carefree
or Cave Creek, I suggest looking into a breach of public trust.
There is a great deal of speculation that Mr. Peirce was prepared
for a recall prior to the April 17 council meeting and was just
awaiting the outcome of the vote.
I
am hopeful that Cave Creek citizens will run Mr. Peirce and
his recall out of town on the proverbial rail. Creekers need
to support our town, mayor, council and staff and stop this
nonsense.
