It’s one thing when a mom (marketing executive) wants her daughter (high school English teacher) to find a nice guy and settle down. It’s another thing when the daughter thinks her mom is “old school.” Put that combination of reasoning together with test driving cars for manufacturers and you really see the generation gap in this ongoing saga of cars, men and family.

X:  Thank you for driving with me to San Francisco for the annual Journalism Education Conference.  Sorry you couldn’t sit in on any of the seminars, but only advisors and students were allowed.

Boomer:  No problem, sitting with thousands of journalism advisors and boisterous teenagers would not have been my idea of a good time.

X:  Really?  I thought you were afraid you might learn something about Journalism?

Boomer:  Not the case Melanie.  Actually, while you were in class, I enjoyed spending the time maneuvering the Acura TSX around the Streets of San Francisco.  Do you remember the TV show, “The Streets of San Francisco” with Michael Douglas?

X:  No mom, I don’t think I was born yet.  I loved San Francisco, and I loved driving the 2006 Acura TSX everywhere, especially down Lombard Street. Season 3 cast members of “The Real World” lived on that famous San Francisco street.  Have you ever seen that reality show?  Oh, forget it.  That would have been past your bedtime.

Boomer:  Really? At least I am not up at 11 o’clock p.m. watching ridiculous reality television.  Nevertheless, thank goodness the Acura TSX sport sedan came equipped with the VSA system for our Lombard Street adventure.

X:  What are you talking about, what is VSA?

Boomer:  Vehicle Stability Assist system which enhances handling to improve control during acceleration, braking, and cornering.  The VSA system helps the driver with handling without him actually knowing it.   The Acura TSX was the perfect vehicle to drive while accelerating down Lombard Street, which is the most crooked street in the world.

X:  I saw other drivers with panic on their faces while taking the corners either with race like speed or a ridiculously slow pace that caused traffic jams.  You have to have a vehicle with good brakes to venture down that street.

Boomer:  Well, the four‑wheel disc brakes on the TSX showed superb stopping power unlike any other vehicles in its class.  The four‑door sports sedan took the curves of the street with ease and had the ability to stop quickly when the people in front kept jerking on their brakes to take photos.

X:  Besides the challenges of Lombard Street, the 2006 Acura TSX sedan handled beautifully on the freeways and bridges during our trip.  The V6, 2.4 AVTEC 205 horsepower engine supplies the Acura TSX with quite a driving force.  I also saved money on gas because the TSX got 22 mpg city and 31 mpg highway.

Boomer: Speaking of bridges, crossing the beautiful Bay Bridge to Oakland was remarkable.

Didn’t you tell me a new bridge was in the midst of construction?

X:  Yes, a bridge is being built from Treasure Island to Oakland.  It appears that the existing landmark bridge was built on Douglas fir trees instead of bedrock; thus, the dangerous swaying of the bridge has the city concerned about the disastrous results of an earthquake.

Boomer:  Thanks for sharing; now you’re a Geography teacher?

X:  No, I was just thinking about how the Acura has also improved on its exterior, which I thought was already very handsome.  However, they subtly restyled its aggressive appearance while maintaining its aerodynamics, which has been such a big part of its high performance personality.

Boomer:  They also improved the bumpers, the Acura grille, restyled the taillights, and installed bumper integrated fog lamps.

X:  And, we all know that fog lamps are totally important and necessary if you live in San Francisco, the “Foggy City.”

Between the VSA and the new fog lamps, it sounds like the Acura TSX was custom made for San Francisco drivers.

Boomer:  We were able to test the Acura, beyond the inner city driving, with our day trip to Napa. Melanie, that was a smooth drive and so luxurious.  You probably secretly wished you were on your way to Napa with a boyfriend instead of me.

X:  It’s no secret mother; a boyfriend in Napa, where the scenery is beautiful and merlot flows, would have been better than schlepping through the winery with my mother in tow.

Boomer:  Schlepping?

X:   Fortunately, the interior of the TSX game me hope.  I

enjoyed the sunroof, leather seats, navigation system, Bluetooth, dual zone climate control, keyless entry, 360‑watt Acura premium sound system with satellite radio, rear seats that fold for increased cargo area and new for this year an auxiliary jack for playing MP3 and other music devices.

Boomer:  Good thing you can work the navigation system so well. If you didn’t enter the information in so quickly and confidently, I would have never found the Kirkland Winery, and I’d still be at Fisherman’s Wharf or Alcatraz.

X:  Speaking of escaping, if you would concentrate on the

operation instructions of the GPS systems you would find it’s not that difficult. The coolest part of the system is the voice recognition and destination guide with over 7 million points of interest.  Finding the Kirkland Winery was easy.  I’m just glad that you were too busy talking to partake in the wine tasting so that you could drive us back to the hotel.

Boomer:  Luckily, you entered in the return destination before you did your wine tasting.

X:  I can’t think of a better sport’s sedan than the 2006 Acura TSX to have driven to and from San Francisco.  I think it’s a lot of car for under $30,000 with so many standard features.  It really is sporty, but functional and I really liked it.

Boomer:  Again, thank you for taking me with you. Maybe next year you’ll have a boyfriend to accompany you.  I really tried to fix you up with all the men we met down by the pier; they were handsome, beautifully dressed, well‑educated, polite and friendly. I don’t understand why you can’t find a boyfriend like them.

X:  Well, that’s because those San Francisco men already have boyfriends.
