Youth twirlers spin to state win

It’s not often we get to report on baton twirling, but we have to admit, these girls have us spinning.

Students from the Cave Creek area were recently part of the gold medal baton twirling team at the Grand Canyon State Games with a routine set to Elton John’s 1970s classic “Crocodile Rock.”

We hear the girls completed their three‑minute routine with only three total baton drops and will look to improve their performance when they return to the summer Grand Canyon Games in June.

Those talented twirlers are Dominique Hammond, Mia Grace, Kylie Ray, Jessie DuPre, Whitney Guillory, Jessica Lauridsen and Songee Barker.

Nice work, girls.

SUMMER CAMPING

The Sandra Day O’Connor High School basketball program is going camping next month. The Champion Basketball Camps will be brought to campus in three sessions in June.

A boys camp is set for June 5‑8 and is intended for entering freshmen and those players currently in high school. The girls camp will be held June 12‑15.

From June 19‑22, the basketball staff will host a co‑ed, third‑ through eighth‑grade camp.

Registration forms are available at the O’Connor athletics office by calling (623) 445‑7100.
