Volunteers needed for this Saturday

The Maricopa County Department of Public Health is calling for volunteers to assist in a mock health emergency on May 19.

The drill is scheduled to take place beginning at 8 a.m. at Cactus Shadows High School. The event runs until about 2 p.m.

The department is looking for volunteers with a car, or other vehicle, willing to drive through their Points of Dispensing sites and act as a citizen requesting antibiotics for themselves and family based on a script to be provided.

Registration takes place at Desert Arroyo Middle School, just north of CSHS, at 33401 N. 56th St., in Cave Creek.

MSC announces 5 summer hikes

The McDowell Sonoran Conservancy of Scottsdale is conducting a series of five free early morning hikes in June and July.

All hikes begin at 6 a.m. and are completed by 9 a.m. No reservations are required and hikers should wear sturdy, covered shoes or boots and bring plenty of water. MSC also suggests hikers bring hats, sunscreen and snacks.

Special education issues prompt meeting

A meeting is scheduled for next month over special education issues in the Deer Valley Unified School District.

The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the North Valley Library in Anthem.

The meeting is being run by parents of special education students to talk about the issues their children are facing in DVUSD.

Kiwanis of Carefree Flea Market

The Kiwanis will be holding their flea market from 8 a.m.‑2 p.m. at the S.W. Corner of Tom Darlington (extension of Scottsdale Road) and Cave Creek Road in Carefree on Saturday, June 2.

All proceeds support youth activities.

Many lamps, wall‑size pictures and frames, rolls of upholstery and drapery material, a round, concrete patio table with four benches and other treasures will be available.

This will be the last Kiwanis Flea Market of the summer. The first fall flea market is Sept. 15.
