Community
task force addresses Anthem crime
Anthem
community leaders met in the middle of April, creating a task
force and sparking dialogue, concerned about how to handle the
recent crime wave in the Pulte Homes/Del Webb Corp. master‑planned
community.
The
task force then proceeded to identify five items to be addressed.
Two
more Maricopa County sheriff’s deputies have been assigned to
patrol Anthem during the evening.
While the additional patrols go into effect immediately,
the added coverage may not be permanent.
A
security meeting will be scheduled in the near future; the task
force feels that the business community should be educated as
to the array of security systems and technology currently available. All business owners should evaluate their security
system to ensure they have effective protection.
An
investigation is underway to examine whether or not Anthem is
receiving adequate law enforcement.
Two variables taken into consideration are population
and the number of calls received by emergency services.
The
Anthem Chamber of Commerce is looking into the possibility of
private security guards for business areas. The cost is estimated at $45 per hour.
The
task force reminds homeowners that they are also responsible
for the security of their property and should stay informed. A neighborhood watch program is being formed,
and interested individuals should call Charlie Anson at (623)
551‑2850 or email AnthemAZvolunteers@yahoo.com.
