It takes more than two to make a tennis team

I wanted to comment on the article written by Jason Stone in the May 16 edition about the Cactus Shadows boys tennis team. This title won was by the team, not just two boys. As a parent of one of the freshman team players, I couldn’t believe that the photo in the paper was of just two players, not the team.

I was disappointed to see this when I turned the page and saw the photo of just two players, but dismayed when I read the article and the other team players’ names were not even mentioned. The team consists of 10 players. All 10 players contributed by playing at some time throughout the State Playoffs. The lineup on finals day were the two junior players shown in the photo, and the six freshman players on the team. The additional two players on the team are sophomores.

All 10 of these boys are to be congratulated for their amazing talent. I really feel that this photo and article should have included all 10 boys, and that could still be done. I’m sure that all of these fine young men would be proud to be recognized.

Here is a list of the other eight members of the team: Sophomore members are Matt Bertram and Hayden Park. Freshman members are Dylan Brabec, Austin Dales, Max Gerston, Eddie Gyde, Zack Hoffmann, and Kevin Siebs. The coach of the team is Bob Dice.

On a final note, I would think that a great accomplishment like this by our youth, is more worthy of the front page than many other events that often win this spot.
