Chairman
Williams recommended my removal from the commission
for three reasons:
1.
He does not have the best interests of Cave Creek
at heart. His agenda is self‑promoting,
and those efforts are at the expense of the town,
its leadership and staff.
I
am not sure who sits in judgment of “the best
interests of Cave Creek,” but it seems to be exclusively
defined by PAC members.
I
have been volunteering on the Planning and Zoning
Commission for four years in the best interests
of Cave Creek. If I had an “agenda solely for
self‑promotion,” I would have run for
office two years prior. When I did run, I supported
the same issues as the PAC. I would not have made
that personal effort unless I cared about Cave
Creek and my view of “the best interests of the
town.”
I
voiced my feelings on some issues impacting the
town: the sound ordinance, Stagecoach Village,
the salary raise for the town manager. When I
did so, I stated I was speaking as a private citizen–not
as a commissioner.
To
suggest that when one questions the actions of
town staff or elected officials as being a loyalty
violation, it is itself a violation of the principles
of democracy in this town, state, and country.
This
most recent issue on the Steetscape and my “news
tip” to Curtis Riggs were a follow‑up on
comments from him to me saying that town staff
had “circled their wagons,” precluding him from
getting answers on the project delays.
Chairman
Williams did suggest I resign–clearly and repeatedly.
There was no misinterpretation or
misunderstanding on my part that he was acting
on behalf of the council. There was no fabrication
in my response as to facts or sequence.
2.
There are issues of honesty and trust.
I
admit asking two commissioners to consider asking
for a motion of reconsideration of some long‑ago
issue before the commission. I take issue that
this was either dishonest or untrustworthy in
intention or fact.
I
further admit it was indiscreet of me to communicate
comments made in the meeting to a reporter,
and I apologized immediately. This was not, however,
a closed meeting, as there were
five private citizens attending and there was
no suggestion of confidentiality.
3.
His continued presence on the commission will
cause increasing discord–not in the best interest
of Cave Creek.
I
was not aware that my presence on the commission
has caused any discord. I tried my best to be
objective on the issues and relegate my remarks
to the issues before the commission. When I elected
to run for town council, in order to avoid any
perception of self‑promotion, I even removed
myself from consideration for the chair by personally
nominating Bob Williams.
To
any of you commissioners who have sensed or felt
“discord” in the past, I apologize, as I respect
each of you and that was certainly not my intention.
