After
a successful showing at the Arizona 5A‑Division
II state championship meet the week before, Sandra Day
O’Connor track and field athletes kept the momentum going
at the Meet of Champions event that the school hosted
May 19.
Lindsay
Prescott won the championship in the 3,200‑meter
race, one of six placing finishes for Eagles runners at
the meet.
Teammates
Aleina Eisenhauer and Nicole Elliot each placed in two
events–Eisenhauer took second in the 800 and 1,600, while
Elliot was second in the shot put and fifth in the discus.
In
the boys competition, Boulder Creek’s 4x800 relay team
backed up its state championship the week before with
a win in the Meet of Champions. The Jaguars also picked
up a third place finish, which Chad Clark took in the
100 hurdles.
O’Connor’s
boys placed in three events, including two by Brandon
Townsend, who placed fourth in the discus and fifth in
the shot put. O’Connor’s Jeff Marquez finished third in
the 400.
Eisenhauer
and Prescott will next join relay teammates Camille Olson
and Dani Hunt for the Nike Outdoor National meet in Greensboro,
N.C. The runners will compete in three relays–the 4x800,
the 4x1,600 and distance medley (1,200; 400; 800, 1,600).
