ANTHEM
– The Outlets at Anthem is under construction.
Joanne
Truax, general manager of the popular factory outlets center,
is excited about the changes and the possibility of adding new
shops.
“We
are in final negotiations with a handful of tenants,” she said
in a telephone interview with The Desert Advocate early this
week. “The International Council of Shopping Centers is meeting
in Las Vegas as we speak. Their leasing convention is going
on right now, and that’s where a lot of deals are made,” she
explained. “I am absolutely hopeful that within the next few
weeks I will be able to announce new tenants.”
As
for the physical modifications to the shopping center itself,
the Outlets will soon have more room for socializing and strolling
along widened sidewalks.
“We
are expanding the food court from an atmospheric and convenience
prospective,” Truax reported. Although there are no new vendors,
there will be more seating and an area for eating outside. “And
we are making sure that we have plenty of electrical power outside
the food court for entertainment,” she added.
“Additionally,
we are wrapping around on the south side of the food court where
we will create a sitting area with an artistic fountain.” The
intent is to create an aesthetic environment for those who frequent
the shops.
As
for the playground area, “the surface was sand and we’ve removed
the sand and are re‑hardscaping with a rubbery substance
called Tot Turf,” Truax advised. She describes it as a tire‑like
surface safe for children to run and play on. “We have removed
the old playground equipment and are replacing it with two new
pieces, as well as an interactive ‘pop‑jet fountain’ where
the kids will actually be able to run through it.” The kiddie
fountain will be equipped with what Truax called “bubblers and
gushers.”
The
front of the center was “previously asphalt, red curbs, and
then landscape,” the general manager explained, “but we are
creating an eight‑foot sidewalk for moms with strollers–a
nicer entry.”
Also
in the works are what Truax described as “shade and heating
elements.”
“Hopefully,
we’re just really creating a gathering spot where people can
come and enjoy the atmosphere, enjoy the amenities, shop, eat
and play, Truax said.
