Spaciousness
is a standard luxury at Desert Springs
by
RaeAnne Marsh
NORTH
VALLEY – Elbow room characterizes the T.W. Lewis homes
in the master‑planned community of Sonoran Foothills,
off 27th Drive a mile south of Carefree Highway, where
the luxury homebuilder has just opened three models. Lots
are large, and the homes situated on them feature wide
hallways and flowing floor plans.
Models
even offer roomy basements.
Five
of the seven models offered in the gated Desert Springs
neighborhood include a basement option, which adds from
1,105 to 1,506 square feet, depending on the particular
model. Without basements, the homes range in size from
the four‑bedroom, two‑and‑a‑half‑bathroom
Alegre at 2,562 square feet to the three‑bedroom,
two‑and‑a‑half‑bathroom Trabuco
at 3,119 square feet. The larger floor plans feature a
formal dining and living room; the smaller ones feature
a great room. A den may take the place of one bedroom
(or the dining room in the Dolce model), or the homebuyer
may elect to make the guest/children’s bedrooms a little
smaller and add a fourth or fifth bedroom.
The
models show off high‑end features that come standard
in T.W. Lewis’ Desert Springs homes. Bathrooms all feature
ceramic tile on the vanities and tub surrounds; master
bath features a separate, tiled shower and an oversize,
oval soaking tub, with a raised deck also ceramic tiled.
Kitchens come with granite slab countertops and ample
cabinets, with the upper cabinets of staggered heights
for eye appeal and finished with crown molding. Interior
doors are eight feet high, and ceilings measure ten feet–including
in the closets, where the height is used to give a second
shelf above the clothing rods for extra storage. Laundry
rooms are large enough to accommodate a built‑in
sink (an upgrade over the standard cabinet) and feature
wood utility cabinets above the space for washer and dryer.
Plus, of course, all windows are highlighted with T.W.
Lewis’ signature wood windowsills.
The
Ciello, at 2,804 square feet, is the smallest of the three
models on display. It features a large, sheltered entranceway
to the front door, mirrored across the threshold by a
foyer, the side walls of which are each cut in with a
large display niche. Straight ahead is the living room/dining
room with its view of the back yard through sliding glass
doors that open to the sheltered patio. The doors are
an available upgrade; standard are wall‑to‑wall
windows that also show off the back‑yard view.
Most bedrooms
lie along one front‑to‑back side of the house,
with separate hallways to the master suite and to the guest
bedrooms and full bath that serves them. Kitchen, family room
and a fourth bedroom lie along the other side of the house,
with the family room in the rear where it enjoys natural light
and views through windows filling the back wall and a diagonal
wall that, by cutting across what would otherwise have been
a sharp corner, softens the contours of the room. A hallway
connects the two wings, skirting one side of the central living
room/dining room, and it is off this hallway that the laundry
room is situated, with through access to the three‑car
garage–an arrangement that grants easy access to and from
all parts of the house.

The
other two models on display are the Canto and Trabuco, the largest
of the Desert Springs homes at 2,874 square feet and 3,119 square
feet respectively. Both feature a secluded courtyard to the
front door, a space that invites a fireplace or fountain (upgrades
shown on these models). A Tudor tower in the Trabuco floor plan
gives the home a large, circular foyer that enjoys daylight
illumination through three windows near the 14‑foot ceiling.
The design of the Canto sets the kitchen eating area into its
own nook with a view out to the courtyard.
A
sample basement is completed in the display model of the Canto.
The two‑flight stairway is wide, as it fills space that
would otherwise be occupied by one of the smaller bedrooms.
An added elegant touch is the deep display niche on either side
wall. Natural light reaches the basement’s game room and bedrooms
through windows open to below‑ground pockets sealed off
at ground level by grates.
Exterior
elevations for each model are available in three styles that
differ extensively from each other, from the roof tiles to window
shape and use of stone accents, affording Desert Springs a varied
streetscape.
The
lots on which the homes sit are at least 9,100 square feet;
many of them are larger (up to 16,274 square feet), and some
of the larger lots do not even require an extra premium for
the lot added to the home price.
Adjacent
to an open‑space corridor, the Desert Springs neighborhood
will be a gated community of 115 homes where residents can enjoy
a pocket park within their neighborhood as well as access to
community amenities that include a clubhouse and community park.
Construction of each home will take from nine months to a year,
with length of time affected by whether or not the basement
option is chosen. T.W. Lewis has already begun construction
of a number of spec homes, which will be available as early
as this July or August.
Models
are open Tuesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Monday
noon to 6 p.m. Representatives Beth Wronski, Jay McMahon, Danielle
Sheehan and Clay Denk may be reached at the sales office at
(623) 434‑8461.
