SCOTTSDALE
– Motorists driving on Pima Road can expect some headaches
over the next year, but the end result will be a six‑lane
highway between Deer Valley Road and Pinnacle Peak Road.
Project
Manager Elaine Mercado told The Desert Advocate last week
that the city is hoping to begin construction of sound
walls along Pima this fall, with actual road construction
beginning in summer 2008.
“We’re
going to put the walls up first,” she said.
The
stretch of road, a little more than one mile long, also
will contain center turn lanes and raised medians. It’s
estimated cost is $13 million, but Mercado said that includes
drainage solutions.
“We
have to address how the runoff from the northeast crosses
the road,” Mercado said, indicating that issue is still
being worked out.
A
public meeting is scheduled for June 6 at The Boys &
Girls Club, 20199 N. 78th Place, where design elements
for the roadway will be presented and questions answered.
Traffic noise has been a concern for area residents, according
to the project manager, and she is hoping to address that
issue at the meeting.
