New school needs parent support

NORTH PHOENIX – Canyon Springs, the new K‑8 school in north Phoenix, is organizing its PTSA which will support campus operations and activities. Parents interested in joining the group are encouraged to attend.

The next planning meeting will be held June 8 at 7 p.m. at the North Valley Regional Library, 40410 N. Gavilan Peak Parkway in Anthem. For more information, call (623) 551‑8620 or e‑mail teamcohen @qwest.net.

Eighth graders tour  D.C. and  New York

NORTH VALLEY – Fourteen students who graduated from Desert Mountain School in Desert Hills and Sunset Ridge in Tramonto chose to extend their eighth grade studies of American government by taking a trip to Washington D.C. and New York June 5‑9. The students will spend an intense two and‑a‑half days in each city.

They will visit Ford’s Theatre and the Smithsonian while in the nation’s capital. They will also see the changing of the guards at Arlington Cemetery, participate in a historic home tour, and see Mount Vernon in Virginia. New York’s destinations include the Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building, “Beauty and the Beast” on Broadway, Central Park, and Ground Zero.

Summer school taught online

DVUSD – At least 1,200 high school students are taking summer school courses through the Deer Valley Unified School District’s eSchool. Courses are offered in ten areas including core academic subjects, business, as well as family and consumer science.

The summer session runs through July 28.
