‘Cinderella’
gets a makeover at Cactus Shadows
Nick
Johnson’s multi‑media “Cinderella:
Fractured Fairytale Meets Film Not‑So‑Noir”
will be presented by Desert Foothills
Community Education at 3 and 7 p.m.
June 16 at the Cactus Shadows Fine
Arts Center, 33606 N. 60th St. in
Cave Creek.
Avery
Lincoln is Cinderella and her movie
star prince is played by Michael
Schauble. Chie Morita is a bag lady
who knows a little secret about
the fairy godmother. Cleve Graver
is the stepmother and D. J. Lincoln
and Ethan Chapman are the stepsisters.
Maddy
Turley plays the film starlet with
her entourage Bailey Niall and Kirsten
Valcic. The prince’s entourage is
played by Quinn Lincoln, Kaleb Niall
and Jason Cozad.
The
story is filled with gangsters,
navy officers, movie star groupies,
flappers, tennis players, socialites
and street urchins, all portrayed
by local performing arts students.
The
production promises an afternoon
or evening of exceptional theater
with mime, dance, song and film.
Tickets

Herberger
presents ‘The Bed’ at lunch
The
Theatre of the Spoken Word will perform
The Bed during the upcoming Lunch Time
Theater presentation at noon June 19‑21
and 26‑28 at Herberger Theater Center,

will be a preview performance at 7 p.m.

Author,
actress and storyteller Dorothy Anderson
presents an original plays that explores
the challenges a contemporary parent has
in dealing with an adult child. Based
on a true story, the drama starts with
the purchase of a piece of furniture–a
bed.
Anderson’s
mission is to take the ancient and traditional
forms of storytelling and transform them
into a theatrical experience.

The fun, summer tours enable
visitors to get a close up and
personal view of the desert
at night, the time when many
of the desert’s creatures roam.

Night
tours at Botanical Garden
Night
time is always a fascinating time
in the desert.
To
prove it, the Desert Botanical
Garden is conducting flashlight
tours every Thursday and Saturday
evening from June through August.
Flashlight
Tours are a sensory adventure
where visitors will see, hear
and feel the desert night including,
nighthawks, tortoises, insects
and night‑blooming flowers.
The
only thing required are a flashlight
and comfortable walking shoes.
Flashlight Tours are recommended
for families and children of all
ages.
All
tours begin at 7 p.m.
Tours
are free with garden admission
and reservations are required.
Garden
admission rates are $10 for adults;
$9 for seniors; $5 for students
13‑18 and college students
with proper identification; and
$4 for children 3‑12. Children
2 and younger and garden members
are admitted free.

Summer
Solstice dinner at The Boulders
The
Boulders Resort & Golden Door Spa
offers a meal under the stars with the
resort’s Summer Solstice dinner.
The
event takes place beginning at sundown
June 21 in the organic garden along with
a Shaman ceremonial blessing of the new
season followed by a cocktail reception
of fresh aperitifs and just‑picked
vegetables from the garden.
As
the setting sun casts a warm glow on the
12‑million‑year‑old
boulder formation surrounding the garden’s
edge, providing the perfect ambience,
diners are treated to a seasonal garden
menu paired with organic wines accompanied
by spiritual readings by noted astrologer
Tom McMullan. McMullen specializes in
awakening the inner being in all of us.
Cost
is $150 per person and reservations are
