meet the future at Starbucks

– Teens ages 12‑18 will meet at Starbucks at 4 p.m.,
June 20, to discuss books about futuristic societies. The
reading group is sponsored by North Valley Regional Library.

Problem
solver wins international title
CCUSD
– Alex Lazo, a recent graduate of Desert Arroyo Middle School
in Cave Creek, placed second in the middle school division
of the International Problem Solving Competition held June
1‑4. Lazo had one‑and‑a‑half hours
to read a scenario set in the future, identify ten potential
problems associated with it and create and execute a written
solution to it.
The
scenario related to the distribution of wealth. This marks
the first international title for the school from this event.
Four other Desert Arroyo students participated in the team
portion of the competition after placing first at the state
level.
