BCHS students to launch Mars Mission

ANTHEM – NASA and the Phoenix Mars Mission announced Boulder Creek High School students will participate in an intern program.

Kris Hansford and Alexa Ogburn, along with Earth Science teacher Kathy Hill have been selected to participate in the Phoenix Student Intern Program. Thirteen teams from across the country will work with a member scientist of the Phoenix Science Team for the 2007‑08 Phoenix Mars Lander Mission launching in August.

The students will learn various aspects of the mission and do their own research to be completed during the time the lander is operating on Mars next summer.

This is the first mission of NASA’s Mars Scout Program, a competitively proposed, relatively low‑cost series of missions to Mars. The University of Arizona leads the Phoenix mission, with project management at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory and development partnership at Lockheed Martin.
