SCOTTSDALE
– The investigation into a June 16 car crash that
killed a young family of four from Chandler is being
treated as a criminal investigation, according to
authorities.
The
Arizona Department of Public Safety said evidence
is continuing to be reviewed while it is being determined
whether Haluk Kandas of Phoenix will face any homicide‑related
charges.
Kandas,
29, crashed his sport‑utility vehicle into
the back of the family's minivan stopped at a red
light on the northbound exit ramp of Loop 101 in
Scottsdale, according to DPS. Kandas told DPS officials
he didn't see the minivan and he didn't see the
red light.
Upon
impact, the minivan erupted into flames–killing
Christopher Walls, 36, his wife Leah, 34, and their
children, Miller, 6, and Mallory, 4.
Once
the investigation is completed, DPS will submit
the case to the Maricopa County Attorney's Office
for review and possible charges.
