DVUSD
– A new school year means 1,800 new Dell computers
for the Deer Valley Unified School District.
With
funding from the capital override issue in the
November 2005 election, which included $27 million
for technology, the district is installing 1,800
new computers throughout all the schools. The
computers are a mix of Latitude D620 laptop
computers and Optiplex 745 desktop computers.
Jeff
Anderson, director of information services for
the district, said the old computers started
getting taken out as soon as the kids departed
for the summer break at the end of May and he
expected the removal process to take about a
month.
“We
should be done installing the new computers
by the third week of July,” Anderson said.
The
computer installation is part of a seven‑year
project to update all the computers in the district.
Anderson said about 1,700 computers were replaced
last summer and that, once finished, the district
will have replaced about 11,000 computers.
