Cactus Foothills LL takes District 3 title
by Jason Stone

CAVE CREEK – For the second year in a row, the Cactus Foothills Little League All‑Stars can sing “We Are The Champions.”

The Majors division team won their second consecutive Arizona District 3 title recently at Anthem’s High Desert Little League field and moved on to play in the Arizona state tournament semifinals last weekend.

Cactus Foothills routed High Desert 18‑2 in the finals and earned the second seed at the state tournament. After winning two of its first three games at the state tournament, the team’s season came to an end in the semifinals when it lost 18‑3 against Arrowhead Little League, the defending state champion.

Arrowhead was scheduled to play for the championship earlier this week past press time. Cactus Foothills missed out on a chance to play in the West Regionals in Washington.

Team members included Megan Scarpulla, Hollis Edwards, Stephanie Wiggins, Alyssa Wicker, McKayla Shaughnessy, Danielle Amann, Emily Simpson, Carli Hansel, Ashley Schiele, Kalyn Peters and Rickilee Niemeyer.

The team’s manager is Joe Wicker, and Mark Peters is an assistant.
