DESERT
HILLS – Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office deputies cited
an off‑duty Peoria police officer for allegedly speeding
120 mph on a motorcycle at Carefree Highway near 7th Avenue.
MCSO
cited Robert Webber, 37, at 10:15 p.m. on July 18. Two other off‑duty Peoria police officers
were riding their motorcycles with Webber, but they were
not cited.
The
alleged incident has prompted the police department to investigate.
“The
Department will thoroughly investigate this incident to
ensure our employees acted professionally and appropriately.
We hold our employees to very high standards–the public
demands it and so do we,” according to a news release from
the Peoria Police Department.
Webber,
who has been with the department for nine years, is currently
assigned to Criminal Investigations, the release stated.
MCSO
public information officer Paul Chagolla said the sheriff’s
office considered issuing speeding citations to the two
other off‑duty officers but did not do so because
there was no probable cause.
Peoria
refused to release the names of the accompanying officers.
