Small businesses offer big service in North Valley

With seemingly endless growth in the North Valley, it’s refreshing to see new mom and pop businesses on the rise.

Recently four enterprising entrepreneurs have taken it upon themselves to test the business waters in the Cave Creek area.

All four businesses are located at 4705 East Carefree Highway at the corner of Black Mountain Parkway and Carefree Highway.

Nationwide Flooring Services

New houses mean new floors and Nationwide Flooring Services is the place to find just about anything you want in fine quality floor coverings.

Owner Greg Koskovich and wife Barbie have lived in the area for seven years and saw the need for a convenient flooring outlet to save folks the hassle of driving to the big city for supplies.

“We offer carpet, tile, wood and stone floors,” Greg says. “And we install everything we sell.

“We live in and know the area, know the community. We’re up here for a reason, to offer our customers the best in service. We are a nice alternative to the big stores.”

All jobs are turnkey. Nationwide takes care of everything from a free estimate to completion.

“Come in and we’ll help with your design and installation whether its new or a remodel. We also encourage do‑it‑yourselfers to give us a try.

If we don’t have it, we’ll make every effort to get it for you.”

Hours are: 10 a.m.–5 p.m. Mon.–Sat. Call (480) 595‑1100 for information.

Joey’s of Chicago

There are a lot of people from the Midwest in the Valley with a desire  for the authentic food they’re missing.

Joe Ragan, himself a native of the Windy City, has created a haven for Chi‑town foodies with his Joey’s of Chicago restaurant. Even the atmosphere is Chicago. Upon entering, customers will walk along a 30‑foot mural depicting the Second City skyline from Lake Michigan.

“What we’re doing that’s different (from other restaurants) is serving true Chicago food,” Ragan says. “We’ve got Chicago‑style hot dogs, burgers and Italian beef sandwiches. If you’ve never had an Italian beef sandwich, you’ll love it. It’s a hot sandwich, kind of a cross between a Philly cheese steak sandwich and a French dip. They’re great. Everything is pretty much cooked to order. Nothing is precooked and laying around. It’s all fresh.”

The hot dogs have their own trademarks too, Ragan says.

“First of all, we never use ketchup on our hot dogs. Then it’s topped with sweet mustard, onion, sweet pickle relish, tomato, sport peppers and a little celery salt. No ketchup.”

The Ragans live in Cave Creek and saw a lack of quick‑service eateries within close proximity.

“Our motto is great customer service. We live right here and we want to be part of the community.  We wanted to open an alternative quick‑service restaurant in Cave Creek and we’d like to invite all of our Midwest friends and the whole Valley to give us a try. You’ll come back for more. We’re open seven days a week.”

Hours are: 10:30 a.m.–9 p.m. Mon.–Sat. and 11 p.m.–8 p.m. on Sat.

Call (480) 595‑5495 for takeout orders.

GarageFloorCoating.com

Garages have become an important consideration for new homeowners in the North Valley.

Buyers take into account the size first, storage and work space,  then the type of floor surface, doors and lighting.

GarageFloorCoating.com can take care of the floor covering part by offering high‑end floor coatings for homes and businesses.

The facility on Carefree Highway is currently unoccupied and seeking a qualified franchisee to meet the growing demands in custom home construction.

“We’ve been in business for 13 years,” franchise spokesperson Joyce Chmura says. “We are a Phoenix‑based company with franchises throughout the United States and Canada. Residential work is our specialty, but we do some commercial work as well.”

The floor coatings are offered in a variety of choices including several different color options and textures.

“We use a chip system in our floors,” Chmura says. “You can either choose from a real shiny surface or one that uses more chips to create a texture on the floor. People are constantly upgrading and turning garages into an extra room on their homes. Enhancement is the fastest‑growing segment of the building process and our floors are the perfect touch to finish off the garage remodeling project.”

In 2006 homeowners spent $2.5 billion on garages in the United States, Chmura says.

“We do 100 floors a week in central Arizona alone,” she says. “It usually takes two to four days to complete a job. We use an industrial grade urethane on all of our floors so they’re tough and durable. We have lots of satisfied customers throughout the Valley. We always pride ourselves on our service.”

GarageFloorCoating.com offers free estimates from ethical representatives.

For floor or franchise information call (602) 579‑2628 or (877) 324‑COAT or visit garagefloorcoating.com.

Unique Men’s & Women’s Boutique

David Bland has spent 21 years in the retail clothing business and brings his wealth of experience to the new Unique Men’s & Women’s Boutique in Cave Creek.

“There were no quality, affordable boutiques available for the North Valley until now,” Bland says. “We feature designer styles for men and women at affordable prices.”

The boutique offers casual to dress, shorts to denim and everything in between.

Bland does all the buying and merchandising for his store, so he knows exactly what he’s going to offer the public.

“Because I deal with companies new to Arizona, I have the ability to special order. My focus is to have something for everyone in the neighborhood,” he says. “We’ll be expanding our styles, brands and sizes to suit all ages. There’s no need to travel to the mall when we’re right here at home.”

One of Bland’s goals is to assure his customers personal attention whenever they enter his store.

“Customer service is our number one priority. We want you to feel free to come into our relaxed, intimate interior and take as much time as you need. There’s no pressure ever to buy anything.”

Bland knows discerning customers are choosy about their denim selections and has stocked his store with a variety of choices.

“We’ll have Big Star and LT jeans year‑round,” Bland says. “We’ll also feature Santiki jeans. The best part about it is all of our jeans are less than $100. We also carry small accessories such as wallets and watches. For those who want to pamper their bodies, there’s a nice selection of lotions and oils to choose from.”

Fall and holiday merchandise is on the way as the long, hot summer season slowly draws to a close.

“We’ll be adding new merchandise almost daily as the fall fashions arrive,” Bland says. “Come in and see our selection of quality, affordable styles.”

Hours are: 10 a.m.–6 p.m. Mon.–Thur., 10 a.m.–7 p.m. Sat. and noon to 5 p.m. Sun.

Call (480) 595‑2299 for information.
